Painting Songs

Description:

This is a song that Sara Quin wrote and that appeared on the Red Demo. Sara sings the lead vocals and Tegan sings the background vocals.

In this interview, the interviewer refers to Painting Songs as "Days and Days" and it is unknown if the song was called this before it was put onto the Red Demo or if the interviewer simply guessed what the name was. Either way, this live performance of that song has often been uploaded on the internet under the name of "Days and Days" rather than Painting Songs. The lyrics in this performance were different, so they have also been included below.

Lyrics:

Red Demo version:

Must be something in the way you walk

Must be something in the way you talk

I'm not sure just yet

Must be something in the way you dream

You just go home all the thirteen days

In between you and I

This is me before I fall apart

This is me before I come undone

I've been tired for days and days

I've been tired for days and days

What's your matter that the fortune don't

All the beauty and I say

Stop, why won't you be mine?

Must be something in the way you taste

Lips are magic sauce and I say

Stop, why won't you be mine?

This is me before I fall apart

This is me before I come undone

I've been tired for days and days

I've been tired for days and days

Well, it could have been a month or

It could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before

Long before you cared

Her art inspired me to, to do my best and

To paint my music like, like I saw it best

And she says I grew up well, well

Well I grew up strong ‘cause no one's got my back

No one's gonna write me my songs

Could have been a month or could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before

‘Cause I've been tired for days and days

Oh, I've been tired for days and days and days

Oh, I've been tired for days and days and days

Well I've been tired for days and days and days

Could have been a month or

It could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before, long before you cared

Her art inspired me to, to do my best and

To paint my music like, like I saw it best

And she says I grew up well, well

Well I grew up strong ‘cause no one's got my back

No one's gonna write me my songs

Could have been a month or

Could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before

‘Cause I've been tired for days and days

Well I've been tired for days and days and days

Well I've been tired for days and days and days

"Days and Days" version:

Must be something in the way you move

It must be something in the way you were

I'm not sure just yet

It must be something in the way you dream

You just go home and the thirteen days

In between you and I

This is me before I come undone

This is me before I fall apart

I've been tired for days and days

I've been tired for days and days

It must be something in the way you move

Innoncent like you gave in just like always know

Well must be something in the way they take

And the magic that you bring in between all you and I

Well, this is me before I come undone

This is me before I fall apart

I've been tired for days and days

I've been tired for days and days

It could have been a month or

It could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before

Long before you cared

Her art inspired me to, to do my best and

To paint my music like, like I saw it best

And she says I grew up well, well

Well I grew up strong ‘cause no one's got my back

No one's gonna write me my songs

Could have been a month or it could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before

‘Cause I've been tired for days and days

I've been tired for days and days and days

I've been tired for days and days and days

I've been tired for days and days and days

I've been tired for days and days and days

It could have been a month or

It could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before, long before you cared

Her art inspired me to, to do my best and

To paint my music like, like I saw it best

And she says I grew up well, well

Well I grew up strong ‘cause no one's got my back

No one's gonna write me my songs

Could have been a month or

Could have been a year

But I, I gave up long before

‘Cause I've been tired for days and days

I've been tired for days and days and days

I've been tired for days and days and days
