well hello everyone.
this dispatch is from me, emy--i'm the tegan and sara art director. i do the website, i design almost everything, i water the plants, i feed the babies, i sing tegan to sleep, i rub sara's feet, i make rob's sandwiches, i rock a headband, and i also sell the merchandise so you may have seen me selling memorabilia at some of the shows this past eternity.
i thought i should write a journal entry because i really have a unique perspective of this whole tegan and sara operation. i'm an insider and YET, i probably have more contact with the fans than anyone else on the road! lucky me. i get to see you all at your finest moments. indecisive, heart-set, pushy but polite, lingering, hyperventilating, adoring, excited, desperate for the last small yellow tshirt--tegan and sara fans are the cutest, nicest, best fans ever. almost all of the time it's a pleasure to sell merch to you.
you see people, life on the road isn't what you all think it is. i know, you all imagine us partying on our "fancy" tour bus, mackin' the ladies, jammin' out in the back, doin' lines and all that.
life on the road is about having no time to yourself, it's about eating what you can get, irregular sleep, long hours and sore backs. it is abot exciting moments mixed in with lots of shit. it is about wanting to eat a salad and getting iceberg lettuce. don't get me wrong there are amazing moments and i am very glad to get to see my 2 favourite women play music every night. unfortunately, i don't get the stage, so i don't get the glory. WELL, the times have changed! i'm sick of tegan, sara, rob, ted and chris stealing my spotlight!!! i'm the star around here and i want some recognition. haven't you all seen my merch display? tell me it's not fabulous. i made a customized LIGHT BRITE for you people every night! where's the fan mail? (p.s. thanks to all the people who sent me fan mail already, i'm just being dramatic because i need attention, i'm alone in montreal and everyone else is in australia)
lets get down to business. here are some interesting facts about living with the band and the july US tour:
1. sara takes 10 weird vitamins everyday and she never gets sick anymore
2. tegan keeps her socks and underwear in vacuum seal bags
3. rob has an elaborate bathroom bag with a tiny fold-up hairdryer inside
4. chris hangs up the backdrop everyday and is now a complete expert
5. ted is the most sensitive member of the extended family--i mean, look at those eyes!!
6. craig drinks 10 diet pepsis a day
7. i spent most of my free time cutting out felt hearts and coordinating everyone else to do the same--tegan's are the real crooked ones. cherish them people!
8. tegan chris and rob beat emy ted and ben ( my brother) in a heartwrenching game of wiffleball in albany NY (sara was the umpire and she cheated to make tegan look better what a bitch, i mean, good sister)
9. we met owls at the minnesota zoo and i got to set up my merch in front of the tiger pit
10. in LA we almost got into the 2nd brawl of the tour when the assholes at beauty bar were obscenely rude to us and kicked us out of our own after party. it was thrilling really.
11. we disinfected the bus once a week so as to avoid another whooping cough/pneumonia incident and it worked!
this last tour was great. it was the best one i've been on so far. my standards are pretty low i just need to eat greens and not get whopping cough and i'm happy.
i put some pictures up that i took. some are from europe most are from the july US tour. i'll be putting new tegan and sara designs up on my website soon so check it out: www.eestoreydesign.com
oh and the felt heart fundraiser was amazing once again!!!!!
we sold SO many hearts and raised over $1300 for oniedas for democracy check out the link: www.oneidasfordemocracy.org. tegan and sara are going to match it--it's amazing to raise that much money in so little time. thanks to everybody for supporting it, though more importantly you should check out the website for more ways to support the organization and to learn more about their history and situation.
over and out
