the other night while I was drifting in and out of sleep on our all night drive to Northhampton from Pitsburg I had a thought. Well actually it was a bunch of thoughts, the first being that I wish we were rich and famous so we were in a more comfortable vehicle. It was only when we were sleeping in the parking lot at Taco Bell after our San Diego show last month that I thought I would rather be working at Taco Bell than sleeping in the parking lot. Anyhow. It reminded me of this time when we were 15 and we slept in a parking lot in Calgary for tickets to the Smashing Pumpkins concert at the SaddleDome. My mom stayed in the van so as to protect us had anything bad or unexpected taken place. Which it did but we didn't really tell my mom in fear of being taken home before the box office oppened. At one point in the evening a girl came over to talk to all of us and ask us if we wanted to come hang out at her boyfriends flop house. I think she was on some sort of illegal substance. I remember a lot of laughing, crying, yelling and weirdness that night. My cousin was there with my mom that night. She was in her early 20's and I think she thought it was cute that we wanted tickets that bad. I think it is cool that she stayed over night with my mom in the van. One time that paticular cousin drove with us from Vancouver to Calgary when she was in her late teens. She slept the whole way. I remember Sara and I sat in the front bench seat in our mini van and laughed all the way back to Calgary. She was going to visit her dad, he lived in red deer I think. That's where, by the way, Mike Clark is from, the guy who was opening for us on this tour. He was also on the drive from Pitsburg to NorthHampton. He used to be a wrestler and a bit of a bar fighter. When we met him he used to dress up and do his hair and wear cologne. Now he sleeps in his car or a blow up air matress with his girlfriend in Vancouver. If I were her I would have held out for a better bed. They swear by it's comfort, sounds like hell to me. Mike just put out a new record, you can buy it at www.themikeclark.com, he used to tour manage us and I am sure that all the songs that are sad or mean are about us. Just kidding. Once Mike threatened to tie sara and I up together and tape our mouths closed and put us in a hockey bag in the trunk of his car on tour somewhere. We had a real good time with Mike as our tour manager. There were a lot of tears shed when he moved on. Kind of like our last tour manager who is really our manager, Nick. I think he thought we were fun for all of 5 seconds and then he started to plan his own demise. I think had the tour not ended when it did we would have had to tour manage ourselves for the duration of the trip. The duration of this trip brings us to Austin, St.Louis, Chicago, Miniapolis, Winnipeg and Regina. Lots of long drives but we have Malcolm in the Middle and the Osbournes to tide us over, oh and Chris bought some old Davie Bowie movie. HOlding my breath for that one. Well take care old friends.
